South Park: The Stick of Truth delayed (again) until March 4th

Ugh!

Matt and Trey can churn out an episode within a week, but this game is taking forever! Take it with a grain of salt, but The Stick of Truth is now supposed to come out March 4, 2013. Stay tuned...

Expecting a new 'South Park' tonight? Here's why it didn't happen!

It wouldn't be a problem for any other show, but since South Park is typically submitted to Comedy Central the day of airing, a silly little thing like a blackout can cause an episode not to air:

On Tuesday night, South Park Studios lost power. From animation to rendering to editing and sound, all of our computers were down for hours and we were unable to finish episode 1704 "Goth Kids 3: Dawn of the Posers" in time for air tonight. Trey Parker said, "It sucks to miss an air date but after all these years of tempting fate by delivering the show last minute, I guess it was bound to happen."  

GOTH KIDS 3: DAWN OF THE POSERS will air next Wednesday, October 23rd. Tonight there will be encore, Live-Tweeted presentation of Scott Tenorman Must Die at 10p EST.

South Park wins Emmy #5!

After getting shut out for year after year, South Park has now won their fifth Emmy Award. Incredible. Congrats to Matt Stone and Trey Parker! Here's the press release:

NEW YORK, September 16, 2013 – “South Park” received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program last night at the 2012-2013 Creative Arts Primetime Emmy Awards, as awarded by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Five-time Emmy winner “South Park” was awarded the Emmy for the “Raising the Bar” episode. The series has also won the prestigious Peabody® Award for Excellence in Broadcasting.
“South Park” returns for its 17th season with ten all-new episodes beginning on Wednesday, September 25 at 10:00 p.m.

And keep in mind, the 16th Season will be released in Blu-Ray and DVD September 24th.

Bill Hader will now be a full-time writer on 'South Park'

South Park has always been Matt Stone and Trey Parker's baby, but now they are bringing another big name into the writer's room full-time: Bill Hader. As seen in the recent documentary "6 Days to Air" Hader has already been in the writer's room and has also attended several writer's retreats with Matt, Trey, and the rest of the crew. He seems to gel well with the other writers and his own brand of humor should be a welcomed addition. It'll be interesting to see an episode penned entirely by Hader, if it even happens: Matt Stone and (especially) Trey Parker have been the driving force behind every episode thus far. He'll start writing for the upcoming 17th (!) season premiering September 25th!

South Park returns for Season 17 on September 25th

The good news? There will be 10 episodes airing straight through starting September 25th, as opposed to the usual 7. The bad news? That's it for Season 17. No more two part seasons, so no more episodes will air in March like usual. 10 episodes per season now, but it's not as bad as it seems.

Parker and Stone will spend the rest of the year focusing on other projects instead of South Park -they recently started their own production company- and they hope the continuous run of less episodes will increase the quality of the show and other projects.

As Stone said, “Why did we do seven and seven to begin with? We just sort of made that up. And we are switching to 10 for the same reason. It just sounded like a good number, and we won’t break up the year so we can more easily do other stuff.”

Matt and Trey haven't let us down before, so I have no doubt that this decision will work out. As long as South Park continues, I'm happy. Also, Season 17 already? Holy shit dude!

Matt Stone and Trey Parker start Important Studios

"Important Studios" will be the name of Matt Stone and Trey Parker's just launched production company, already with an estimated value of $300 million. So why start their own production company? Matt and Trey put it best:

"Having worked with several different studios over the years, we came to realize that our favorite people in the world are ourselves.”

Plus, they'll obviously have better control over their projects, the first of which will be a Book of Mormon movie. This is a good move on their part, and hopefully we can see some hilarious projects down the line.

Man who threatened South Park gets 12 years in prison

If you're a fan of South Park like I am, surely you remember a few years back when the South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone received death threats from a Muslim group over showing the Muslim prophet Mohammed in a bear costume.  Turns out those threats were from the "Revolution Muslim" website, which was founded by Jesse Curtis Morton (a Muslim convert from Brooklyn, NY).  Along with South Park, others were targeted; Morton used words such as "we'll slit your throat" to describe the groups actions.  His attorney tried to argue that the website was for "engaging in dialogue" but I'm calling bullshit on that one.  And so are the courts, who sentenced Morton to 12 years in prison. Justice!

Congrats to Matt and Trey (and Robert)! (UPDATED WITH VIDEO)

Finally avenging their Grammy loss to Phil Collins (for Blame Canada), Matt Stone and Trey Parker, along with Robert Lopez, won the Grammy for "Best Musical Theater Album" last night.  They won of course for The Book of Mormon, which has been a huge success on Broadway.  Lucky for me, I have tickets for the show in September!

THQ today announced that they are collaborating with South Park Digital Studios LLC, the joint venture between "South Park" creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker and Viacom Media Networks and Obsidian Entertainment, Inc. to develop the next chapter in South Park entertainment: "South Park: The Game."

"South Park: The Game" is an epic role-playing adventure that will allow the user to befriend Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny and explore the quiet little mountain town like never before.

"Our goal is simple: to put creative talent first," said Danny Bilson, EVP Core Games, THQ. "Matt and Trey are arguably two of the most important comedic talents of their generation. Bringing their vision of South Park to the interactive space is a dream-come-true."

The first details of "South Park: The Game" will be revealed in the exclusive cover story in Game Informers January issue, shipping to subscribers in early December 2011.

"South Park: The Game" is scheduled to be available for the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and Windows PC in the second half of calendar 2012.

20 seasons of South Park?

Yes please!  South Park has been renewed til at least 2016, bringing its total seasons to 20.  That's insane.  The show started when I was almost 10, which means I'll be almost 30 when the show hits 20 years.  Congrats to Matt, Trey, and the entire South Park crew!

Robert Lopez to guest write on South Park

Robert Lopez, who worked on The Book of Mormon with Matt Stone and Trey Parker, will visit the show next week to help them write the next episode of South Park.  Naturally, no word yet on what the episode is about.

The Book of Mormon Movie?

Yep, Matt Stone and Trey Parker recently confirmed they will be adapting their hugely successful Broadway musical, The Book of Mormon, into a Hollywood film.  Trey would most likely direct, with long-time collaborator Scott Rudin producing.  This is great news, considering Matt and Trey haven't made a movie in years, and many people haven't had a chance to catch the musical since it sells out quickly.  It will probably be a few years from now, but I'll still be looking forward to it.

The average person would probably look at Matt Stone and Trey Parker as funny guys who don't take their jobs seriously and just slack off, but they'd be dead wrong.  Their job, while high paying, is quite stressful and not easy.  They actually work hard and have a process for making South Park, and more specifically writing the episodes.  Part of the process is outlined below.

Primus to stream new album on South Park Facebook page

Some of you may be reading that headline and saying "WTF?", but it does indeed make sense.  Every version of the South Park theme has been done by either Primus or frontman Les Claypool, and Primus had even contributed to Chef Aid.  South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker are also very good friends with Les.  So for Primus to stream their entire new album on the South Park Facebook page makes perfect sense.  Click the link above to listen.  The album, Green Naugahyde, drops September 13th.

12. BASEketball

It probably wasn't Trey Parker and Matt Stone's best work, but at least it wasn't as bad as Orgazmo. This film definitely had its moments, as the video shows.

These guys gave us South Park, so they're forever in my good graces. And if baseball was half as exciting as this, I would actually watch it.
