The Walking Dead Season 6 Part 1: A Look Back and A Look Ahead

I've been politely asked about a dozen times (you know who you are) to do a post on the latest season of AMC's The Walking Dead. I initially couldn't think of a good idea, but eventually decided to write about the first half of season 6. I've read all the comics to date (they are at issue #151), and I feel that I can apply that knowledge to what may or may not happen in the second half of season 6. Let's start with a look back at the first half:

'The Walking Dead' casts its next villain

I'm very fucking excited for this, though this character's introduction comes a but earlier than expected. This should also have a huge implication on Glenn's apparent death. I'll say more later.

#HappyHolograms

NEW YORK, DECEMBER 8, 2014 – Cartmaaan Bra is trending in the season finale of “South Park” titled “#HappyHolograms,” premiering Wednesday, December 10 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central.

Still burning over Ike calling him a Grandpa, Kyle teams up with some heavy hitters in the entertainment industry to create the most extravagant televised Holiday Spectacular ever. He’s sure that this event will be just the thing to bring families together again. Meanwhile, multiple holograms are still on the loose in South Park.

NEW YORK, DECEMBER 1, 2014 – At 9 years of age, Kyle finds that a new generation is passing him by in an all-new episode of “South Park” titled “#REHASH,” premiering Wednesday, December 3 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central.

Kyle can’t figure out why Ike and his friends want to watch people comment on things going on around them rather than experience it for themselves. Meanwhile, the Marsh family needs money after Stan spent it all on freemium games so, Randy is forced to perform live to bring in some cash.

NEW YORK, November 17, 2014 – There are illegal goings-on in the basement of City Wok in an all-new episode of “South Park” titled “Cock Magic,” premiering Wednesday, November 19 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central.

Kenny excels at playing the game, Magic: The Gathering. He has the boys’ full attention until a new, hard-core activity gets in the way. When Wendy tries to get Stan to pay attention to what she’s doing, she realizes that what he does with his guy friends always comes first.

NEW YORK, November 10, 2014 – What’s real is anyone’s guess in an all-new episode of “South Park” titled “Grounded Vindaloop,” premiering Wednesday, November 12 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central.

Butters is convinced that he’s living in a virtual reality. When he suddenly goes rogue and wreaks havoc at home and all over South Park, everyone struggles to figure out what’s real.

NEW YORK, November 3, 2014 – The kids in “South Park” are playing the new Terrance and Phillip mobile game on an all-new episode titled “Freemium Isn’t Free,” premiering Wednesday, November 5 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central.

Stan is addicted to the latest app to hit the market. Meanwhile, Terrance and Phillip aren’t feeling so good about the fortune they’re making on their new mobile game.

NEW YORK, October 27, 2014 – Graphic video from an unknown drone is uploaded on the internet on an all-new episode of South Park titled “The Magic Bush,” premiering Wednesday, October 29 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central.

Cartman and Butters get their hands on a drone and can’t resist the urge to take it for a spin around the neighborhood.

NEW YORK, October 13, 2014 – Timmy‘s personal car service takes off on an all-new episode of “South Park” titled “Handicar,” premiering Wednesday, October 15 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central.

Timmy’s idea to raise money for the summer camp has everyone in South Park trying out the latest trend in transportation. Timmy’s success makes him a lot of enemies and a bloodbath of epic proportions is on the horizon.

NEW YORK, October 6, 2014 – The state of one’s gender is in question on an all-new episode of “South Park” titled “The Cissy,” premiering Wednesday, October 8 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central.

Stan is searching for answers about how a person who he’s always known to be one thing could suddenly identify with another. In the meantime, the pressure of holding on to a giant secret is starting to get to Randy.

Gluten Free Ebola

NEW YORK, September 29, 2014 – The consequences of eating gluten are dire on an all-new episode of “South Park” titled “Gluten Free Ebola” premiering Wednesday, October 1 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central.

Mr. Mackey is now gluten free and everyone is annoyed when he won’t quit preaching about how great he feels. But, after witnessing a disturbing demonstration of what happens to your body when you do eat gluten, South Park becomes the first town in America to go gluten free.

NEW YORK, September 22, 2014 – The boys launch a Kickstarter campaign and get down to business on an all-new episode of “South Park” titled “Go Fund Yourself” premiering Wednesday, September 24 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central.

 After Cartman and the boys name their new company, The Washington Redskins, they just sit back and watch the funding roll in. The head coach of the Washington Redskins football team demands that they change the name but Cartman digs in his heels. The Washington Redskins may never mean the same thing ever again.

Jim Carrey to host SNL this season

We already know that Chris Pratt, Sarah Silverman, and Bill Hader are scheduled to host the first three episodes of SNL this season. Now The Wrap reports that Jim Carrey will also hostSNL this fall. This will make a third turn as host for Carrey, following his 1996 and 2011 appearances. The Wrap doesn't specify a date, but it will be surrounding Dumb and Dumber To's November 14 release, so at minimum, expect one or two sketches where Carrey wears a sweater.

Darrell Hammond to become new SNL announcer

The new “voice” of “Saturday Night Live” is going to have a familiar tone 

Darrell Hammond, the versatile impressionist who held forth on the program between 1995 and 2009 – the longest tenure of any cast member on the show – will return to the venerable program as its announcer, Hammond and show executive producer Lorne Michaels said in interviews with USA Today and The New York Times. He will replace Don Pardo, the program’s longtime announcer who passed away in August. 

Hammond has some familiarity with his new duties. He has at times quietly substituted for Pardo when he had voice problems, according to the reports. 

Michaels told USA Today that Hammond would not replicate Pardo’s voice, but would come up with his own take on the role. “”I just knew it wouldn’t be anybody who sounded like Don or replicated him,” Michaels told the media outlet. “It can’t be what it was, but it could sort of be in the same tradition. And it will be nice to have Darrell around. He understands the show and will probably be helpful in ways we haven’t yet figured out.”

Zach Galifianakis set to star on upcoming FX series

FX announced today that they’ve given a series order to a show co-created by Galifianakis, Louis C.K., and Jonathan Krisel (Portlandia, Saturday Night Live). Entitled Baskets, Galifianakis will play Chip Baskets, a man who dreams of becoming a professional clown, but after a failed attempt at attending a fancy Parisian clowning college, he takes the only clowning job he can find, working at a local rodeo. The ten-episode first season will air in 2016, which gives them plenty of time to figure out how to apply clown makeup to a beard.
