I can finally own a Hoverboard from Back to the Future!

I posted about the possibility of this before, but it's now a reality! Alas, it doesn't actually hover and it's $130 (plus shipping), but it IS still pretty awesome. It's an official 1:1 replica of the Mattel Hoverboard used in Back to the Future and would make a great addition to any movie lover's collection. Definitely going on my Christmas list this year, hint hint! Mattel making Back to the Future hoverboards?

Finally!!  Too bad they won't hover, but still, amazing.  From Vulture:

Perhaps encouraged by Nike's recent released of a limited-edition shoe line based on the self-lacing future shoes from Back to the Future Part II, Mattel has announced plans to potentially release a hover board this Christmas. Says the toy manufacturer, "This totally awesome 1:1 replica of the hover board from the BTTF 2 and BTTF 3 films includes multiple whooshing sounds and will glide over most surfaces," though it won't actually, y'know, hover. ("Check back in 2015 for that feature," the product description adds.) The manufacturer will take orders for the item this March, and provided that its production minimums are met, you'll get your non-hovering hover board this Christmas. Now, who can get to making some giant hologram sharks?

What's next for Tom Hanks?

With Tom Hanks' latest film, Larry Crowne, premiering July 1st of this  year, what's next for the superstar?  Hanks and his Playtone production company are working on an HBO series based on the Neil Gaiman novel American Gods and even a movie version of the Broadway version of Green Day's American Idiot.  They're also in talks with past collaborator Robert Zemeckis to direct Major Matt Mason, a live action 3D film based on the Mattel action figure, which will be the next project for Playtone and Hanks.
