Sin City 2 delayed, to premiere NEXT summer

Bummer! From Uproxx:

Dimension Films, distributing the movie, pretty much just said, yeah, it’s delayed. Needless to say, some digging has turned up why, precisely. Fortunately it’s not because the movie stinks, or at least nobody involved thinks it stinks: This is the guy who turned out Planet Terror, after all.

I have been told that this delay is for effects work and not at all representative of the quality of the film or the confidence Dimension has in it. Robert Rodriguez is also notorious for how involved he is with the post production process and he has Machete Kills coming in September so I bet he just needs more time to finish the film.

Even more Sin City casting news

The last main character for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For has finally been cast. It was announced today that Eva Green will play Ava Lord in the film, which is in production now. Besides Green, Julian Garner has been cast as another new character, Marcy. That should be it for the casting news, but we'll see!

Bruce Willis confirmed for Sin City 2, and more news

As the title says, Bruce Willis has finally been confirmed for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, the sequel to 2005's Sin City. I figured he had already been part of the cast, but this confirmation is great news, as nearly all of the original cast has returned (Josh Brolin is replacing Clive Owen, and Dennis Haysbert is replacing the late Michael Clark Duncan). Ray Liotta, Juno Temple, and Jeremy Piven have also been cast in unknown roles.

Also as the title indicates, there's more Sin City news! Some info on JGL's new character, Johnny, has been revealed. From ComingSoon:

"It's a new character. He plays a gambler, a very cocky gambler, who comes in and tries to beat the biggest villain in Sin City at his own game. The story's called 'The Long, Bad Night.' He beats the wrong guy in a game and bad stuff happens to him."

Lastly, the film will be released in 3D, which director Robert Rodriguez has said will "blow people's minds." I'm skeptical about that, but I'd love to be proven wrong. The first film had a great aesthetic and I'm hopeful the sequel will as well.

Josh Brolin and JGL join Sin City 2

Josh Brolin and Joseph Gordon Levitt have joined the cast of the second Sin City movie, A Dame to Kill For. Brolin will play the pivotal role of Dwight, which was previously held by Clive Owen in the first film. No issues with continuity though, as Dwight undergoes plastic surgery in the graphic novels. JGL will play a new character called Johnny.

The "All-State Guy" to replace Michael Clarke Duncan in the next Sin City

Due to Duncan's unfortunate passing, Dennis Haysbert (the All-State Guy/Pedro Cerrano) will star as Manute in the next Sin City film, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. So if you suddenly want to swith to All-State after watching the new movie, this casting addition is why!

Stuff I missed from yesterday

Hopefully this won't be a recurring feature, but here's a few things I missed from yesterday:

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For gets release date

The sequel to Sin City, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, finally has a release date of October 4th, 2013.  Casting is already underway, with Jessica Alba and Mickey Rourke (so far) reprising their roles.  Mark your calendars!

Sin City 2 finally to begin production!

It's about damn time! It's only been what, 7 years? Sheesh.  From ComingSoon:

Filmmakers Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller, along with producer Alexander Rodnyansky, have announced that production will commence on the highly anticipated sequel to 2005's Sin City, entitled Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. The film will be produced by AR Films and Quick Draw Productions, financed through AR Films U.S and released domestically by Dimension Films.

"The first question I am always asked is 'When will you make another Sin City? ,' said Rodriquez.  "I have wanted to re-team with Frank Miller and return to the world he created since the day we wrapped the original, but have felt a duty to the fans to wait until we had something truly exceptional that would meet and exceed what have become epic expectations. A Dame To Kill For will certainly be worth the wait."

Sin City creator, screenwriter and co-director Frank Miller said, "The first Sin City knocked out audiences who had never seen anything like it before. Robert Rodriguez and I are going to shake things up and deliver a ferocious film experience that is going to go even further than the first."

Mickey Rourke talks Sin City 2

I must've missed the news that Sin City 2 is tentatively scheduled to start filming early next year (finally!), but Mickey Rourke talks about his character Marv and his chances of returning to play the role:

"It depends," he smiled, "It depends on how bad they want me. You feel me?"

Some time ago, Rourke had noted his reluctance to re-approach a part with such heavy make-up.

"I did [like the character]," he reiterated today, "but I'm claustrophobic, so the the hours of makeup -- You have to keep it on for about 13 or 14 hours a day. It's latex and glue and that stuff that gets my eyes all red..."

Rourke, who is famous for his candid interview comments, also recalled an anecdote from the first film's production that reminds him of another reason to resist prosthetics.

"I remember I picked up some chick at a bar in Texas one night and invited her to the set to have lunch at the lunch break," he grinned. "I couldn't take the s--t off. F--k it, I never saw her again!"

First of all, if you're a man of Rourke's stature and you're claustrophobic... really?  Take a damn Valium or something and suck it up.  Second of all, if you're a man of Rourke's celebrity and you're complaining about losing a girl... really?  Get another one!  And clearly "it depends" really means "it depends on how much money they give me," and I say give it to him.  He played Marv perfectly and I can't see anyone else fill those mitts.

Sin City 2 could begin shooting this year?

At the San Diego Comic-Con last month, Robert Rodriguez said that Frank Miller has written the script for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and that "it could shoot as early as later this year."

Talking to We Got This Covered, Rodriguez added that the sequel has financing in place as well:

"Sin City 2 is going good, we're just finishing the script for that, we already got the money. We have everything we need so we can just start shooting as soon as we get the pages."

I, like many other fans of the Sin City series, will believe this when it actually happens.  Can't wait for the film, though, as it should be just as great as the first.

Long-anticipated, Robert Rodriguez's sequel to his and Frank Miller's 2005 Sin City looks like it's finally getting ready to hit the big screen.

"Frank has written a script for 'Sin City 2,'" Rodriguez just announced in Comic-Con's Hall H, adding, "It could shoot as early as later this year."

Though the film will feature the title "A Dame to Kill For" and will adapt that original Frank Miller story, it will also feature two all-new stories set in the Sin City universe. The title for one of them was revealed for the first time as, "The Long Bad Night".

At this point is unknown which actors might return for the sequel, though the "Dame to Kill For" story again features Marv (Mickey Rourke) and Nancy (Jessica Alba).

I hope Mickey Rourke and Jessica Alba return for this film, they were great in the first one and I can't imagine anyone else taking their places, especially Rourke.
