A bit of a dilemma

The Phillies cap off the long regular season tonight against the Braves.  If they win, they will set a new franchise record with 102 wins.  However, this will also allow the Cardinals to make the playoffs with a win, therefore becoming the Phillies opponent in the NLDS.  If the Cardinals don't win though (and the Phils do) then the Cards and Braves will play a one game playoff in order to decide the NL Wildcard.  (The playoff would also occur if both teams win tonight.) This would be presumably be good for the Phillies, unless the Braves win the playoff since it wouldn't affect them.  Personally, I'd rather not have the Phillies play the Cardinals in the first round, as they've been red hot lately (and beat the Phillies 3 of 4 recently).  If the Braves become the wildcard team, the Phillies would play the lowest remaining seed in the NLDS, which would be the Diamondbacks.  In my opinion, they don't pose much of a threat to the Phillies.  Yet despite this, I'd really love the Phillies to set that franchise record, just not at the cost of playing the Cardinals in the first round, unless they burn a starter during the one game playoff.

So best case scenario?  The Phillies win, the Cardinals lose, the Braves and Cardinals play a one game playoff to decide the NL Wildcard, the Braves win, and the Phillies play the Diamondbacks in the NLDS.  We'll see what happens.

Chris Christie did something good?

Yes, for once, believe it or not.  Our beloved governor hasn't done too much to woo over citizens of lovely New Jersey, but maybe this will help.  Christie recently vetoed a $420,000 tax credit for the first season of Jersey Shore (codenamed the "Snooki Subsidy").  It won't affect the show too much, but at least New Jersian's taxes aren't supporting that crap.  To quote the governor:

"...as chief executive I am duty-bound to ensure that taxpayers are not footing a $420,000 bill for a project which does nothing more than perpetuate misconceptions about the state and its citizens."

I can't agree more.

Creator of delicious Doritos dies in Dallas

+1 for alliteration.

Anyway, the creator of Doritos, Arch West*, passed away today.  He died at the age of 97, in Dallas' Presbyterian Hospital.  It is a sad day for the snack world indeed, but in perhaps what will be the most awesome burial service ever his family plans to spread Doritos chips over his casket.

A couple of things

The Phillies finally decided to hit today, snapping their 8 game losing streak in the process.  They beat the NY Mets 9-4 to notch their 99th win with 3 games against the Braves left....

The Eagles blew yet another 4th quarter lead, and again lost Michael Vick in the process.  He broke his non-throwing hand, so we'll see how that pans out.

Just another Sunday for Philly sports I guess.

This is weird
