Sorry for the slacking

I've always aimed to post at least once per day here at the B Long Blog, but lately school and life has gotten in the way. So I just wanted to apologize for missing a few more days than usual, but bear with me for a while! I'll be back to normal once I can, but in the meantime you can still expect great content.

Thanks for the understanding, readers.

FYI: Removed "reactions"

Just some B Long Blog news real quick: I removed the "reactions" option at the bottom of each post. Nobody used them anyway, so I don't think anyone will mind. I still encourage everyone to comment and share though!

Some minor alterations

Just announcing some minor alterations to the B Long Blog. I've fixed the "page" tabs under the header, so now when you click on them you will be automatically taken to a lists of posts containing the respective label. I've also added a new link to the Bill Murray Blog, and a new subheading. A slight format change may be on the way as well.

1,000th Post Extravaganza!

I can't believe I made it to 1,000 posts! On second thought, I'm not too surprised at the number, but rather how quickly I reached this milestone. I vowed to make at least 1 blog post every day since I started the B Long Blog way back on April 14, 2011; I only recently broke the streak and missed one day (11/11/12). But I have more than made up for it, as I have now posted 1,000 times over the last 623 days. That averages 1.6 posts per day... not too shabby! I'd still like to see that increase to 2 posts per day, but it's not always easy as I do have a life outside of the blog (I know, it's hard to belive). Click the link above for some stats on the timeframe.

For more stats and facts, look no further! I'll have plenty, so let's get started.

As of now, at 9:30pm on December 26, 2012 (Boxing Day!):

Facebook "Likes" - 49 (Can I get to 50?!?! Sheesh.)
Total pageviews - 35,580
Pageviews per day - 57.11

Graphs!

Top posts of all-time!

  1. (3285) Where Are They Now? The Cast of Clarissa Explains It All (August 21, 2011)
  2. (1696) Patrick Bateman says... (June 28, 2011)
  3. (282) I'm glad I don't have ADD (January 2, 2012)
  4. (156) Merry Leap Day! (February 29, 2012)
  5. (125) The Awful Secret Implied by The Dark Knight Trilogy (July 16, 2012)
  6. (116) 7 Insane Easter Eggs Hidden in Movies (May 25, 2011)
  7. (114) HUGE margarita (April 21, 2011)
  8. (112) Flyers Playoff Scenarios (April 23, 2012)
I've found some discrepancies with the view counts for these posts, so a few of these may not be worthy.  Now of those top 10 posts, only 7 are originals by me and not re-posts from other sites; of those 7, I only consider 3 to be posts with some "hefty" content. The #1 spot though is a B Long Blog original, so I'm happy that it's still the far and away leader. Now, here's my own best of the B Long Blog, all originals from oldest to newest:

  1. Chad Smith Has the Best (Worst?) Drumming Face (May 7, 2011)
  2. This is what happens in college (May 10, 2011)
  3. Where Are They Now? The Cast of Clarissa Explains It All (August 21, 2011)
  4. Adam Sandler Career Timeline (November 3, 2011)
  5. Eddie Murphy Career Timeline (November 6, 2011)
  6. What if the Eagles didn't blow those 4th quarter leads? (November 20, 2011)
  7. Jim Carrey Career Timeline (November 22, 2011)
  8. Batman: Arkham City review (December 4, 2011)
  9. Tom Hanks Career Timeline (February 27, 2012)

  13. One word review of The Avengers (June 10, 2012)
  14. One word review of The Dark Knight Rises (July 19, 2012)
  15. Miller Lite Punch Top vs drumstick (July 25, 2012)
Now be sure to view all my "Best of B Long Blog" posts and let's see if we can't change that Top 10! I'll have an updated list for the top posts of 2012 in a few days, so stay tuned for that. Aside from the best of posts, be sure to check out my "Behind the Numbers" series, in which I analyze various stats from all of the Eagles losses games; click the "Behind the Numbers" tag that I'll include below.

Milestones!

1st Post! (April 14, 2011)
100th Post (May 28, 2011)
Top 10 Posts of 2011 (December 31, 2011)

Thank you all for continuing to read the B Long Blog, and please don't hesistate to share a link of Facebook or any other website. Can I get some more Facebook likes too? Only 1 away from 50, which would be another milestone! Thanks!

And if you must know, I'm still considering a Bill Murray spinoff blog!

Happy Thanksgiving/National Eat Too Much Day

I don't think that second part is real, but it certainly could be. Hopefully everyone is concerned more about the day with family than they are about Black Friday shopping; apparently it has stretched into Thursday. (Grey Thursday?) Don't overcook that turkey, though. From all of us here at the B Long Blog (me), have a fun, great, and safe Thanksgiving! Enjoy the food, football, and booze!

To make the day more interesting, here's some printable BINGO cards you can play during the events today. View the rest after the jump, from Flavorwire:

Just some minor updates

Like the title says, I made a few updates to the B Long Blog. Nothing major, but I added the ability for you guys to add your reactions to every post, so let me know if you have any suggestions to add/remove options. Also, when you click on the tabs at the top of the screen I put a link that will take you directly to a post list with the respective tag. It's the same as clicking on the tags underneath the posts; eventually I should get rid of those tabs or figure out something else to do with them. For now, they'll stay.

Continue to "like" the blog (just click over on the right, will ya?) and spread the word best you can. Let me know if you have any suggestions at all, and thanks for reading!

25

Today I turn a quarter of a century old! It's my birthday, in other words. Last year I brought you a list of people I shared a birthday with, and this year I figured I'd give a list of events that happend on September 4th during some year in history.

  • 476 - The Western Roman Empire comes to an end, after Romulus Augustulus is deposed.
  • 1666 - The most destructive damage from the Great Fire in London.
  • 1781 - Los Angeles, California is founded by 44 Spanish settlers.
  • 1886 - After nearly 30 years of war, Apache chief Geronimo surrenders to General Nelson Miles.
  • 1888 - George Eastman registers the "Kodak" trademark and patents a camera that uses a roll of film.
  • 1950 - Darlington Raceway hold the first 500 mile NASCAR race: The Southern 500.
  • 1957 - The Ford Edsel debuts.
  • 1972 - US Swimmer Mark Spitz wins 7 Gold medals at the Munich games.
  • 1985 - The discovery of Buckminsterfullerene, the first fullerene molecule of carbon.
  • 1987 - I was born!!!
  • 1998 - Google is founded.

Labor Day?

Should be called No Labor Day! Am I right? I celebrated by being lazy and not being productive. How did you "celebrate"?

A B Long Blog milestone

Just recently at the B Long Blog, we've hit over 25,000 pageviews! Thanks to everyone who views the blog daily, and everyone else who checks out even one post. Couldn't have done it without you guys, please keep it up! Continue to share and spread the word.

In other news, Neil Armstrong passed away today, at age 82. No, not Lance Armstrong, who was recently stripped of his 7 Tour de France titles for what I believe to be bullshit doping allegations. Neil was the first man on the Moon, and is most remembered for the misquote "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."

Happy 4th of July!

Apparently America became independent from British control on July 4th, 1776 or something.  All I know is that every year when July 4th rolls around, I can expect some great food, drinks, and outdoor fun.  So happy 4th of July!

Nick Offerman (he really should just legally change his name to Ron Swanson) provides a list of 25 other things you should do on this holiday; without a sidearm most of these won't be possible:

  1. Shoot your own dinner entrées.
  2. Drink American beer while it's fresh.
  3. Carry a sidearm into church.
  4. Shave your pubes into an American eagle.
  5. Place a beef-jerky bouquet on John Wayne's grave.
  6. Drive an appropriately sized truck.
  7. Read the national edition of USA Today.
  8. Make a healthy living simply playing the children's game of soccer.
  9. Visit the historical home of Laura Ingalls Wilder and drink a half pint of Old Darlin'.
  10. Urinate in North Dakota.
  11. Consume USDA-certified meatstuffs.
  12. Learn about the Bible in science class.
  13. Gape at the majesty of California's giant redwoods while watching Ax Men on an iPad.
  14. Carry a sidearm into an antique-furniture store.
  15. Stand at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and contemplate the grandeur of the combination safe full of sidearms in your nearby RV.
  16. Go an entire week eating nothing but corn-syrup-based comestibles.
  17. Appreciate firsthand the natural beauty of American women, particularly my American wife.
  18. Not hear any Dutch accents.
  19. Stand at the northern border and pass gas into Canada.
  20. Secede from the union and form your own island state. (Still working out the bugs in this one.)
  21. Watch a WNBA game live and revel in the physical prowess of women who know what the human body is supposed to look like.
  22. Catch a largemouth bass, release it, then drive to McDonald's in a Hummer and step up to a delicious McRib.
  23. After that delicious McRib, hum "I'm Lovin' It" while carrying a firearm into a Buddhist temple.
  24. Become obese, then immobile, and get famous for it.
  25. Appear on television and get all the money and tail you could ever dream of by becoming a televangelist.

Bill Murray Blog?

So I'm thinking about starting another blog devoted exclusively to Bill Murray... What does everyone think? I'd still post about him on this blog, but it seems like the man deserves his own blog. Coming soon?

Happy Memorial Day!

Happy Memorial Day to all my readers. I'm sure everyone knows someone personally that has been affected in one way or another by war. Enjoy your day of food, beer, swimming, and sun but above all remember the true reason for the day.

Happy Birthday to the B Long Blog!!!

Holy crap! I've been blogging an entire year! And I missed the anniversary date! Just two days ago, April 14th, marked the first birthday of the B Long Blog.  And I missed it? Oh well, I'd been blogging for 365 366 days, so forgive me.
As of my one year anniversary, I had made at least 1 post a day for the entire (leap) year, for a total of 569.  That's an average of 1.55 posts per day; not too shabby.  I'd like to see that get up to 2 per day, but we'll see how it goes. Views were right around 13,000 on the 14th, which comes to 35.52 per day.  Also just got to 30 likes today, and I'd like to get to 60 in much quicker than a year.  That's up to you guys! Happy Birthday to me!

Please click like, and share on Facebook!--->

Also, finally finsished tagging all 576 posts, so everything is up to date as of 4/16/12

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter everyone! May your day be filled with Jell-O eggs, Peeps, Reese's Eggs, ham, family, alcohol? and actual eggs.  And zombie Jesus!

April Fools!!!

Now that I got at least 1 person, happy April Fool's Day! The blog will remain open so don't be sad and please disregard the previous post. There was a subliminal message in there; check out the bolded letters. While your emotions are being messed with, please take a moment to click "like" on the right hand side. Thanks!

RIP The B Long Blog - Gotcha!

I regret to inform everyone that I will be ending the B Long Blog today.  I've just been too busy with work and other things lately that I can't put in enough time and effort to properly maintain the blog.  I lasted nearly a year, and made at least 1 post per day but that streak will be ending.  Sorry!  Maybe I'll bring it back someday, but for now please enjoy the plethora of posts I have made, as they won't be going anywhere.

EDIT: If you still don't get it, put together all the bolded letters and check the date of the post!
