Congrats to the 76ers!

I don't post about/follow the 76ers much, but regardless of that a big congratulations go out to the team for upsetting the top seeded Chicago Bulls in the first round! It was only the fifth time in NBA history that an 8 seed upset a 1 seed (though the Bulls did have 2 star players out for most of the series). Too bad they're playing the Heat next round... I'm not liking their chances.

EDIT: As pointed out by my friend Gregg, the NBA playoffs use a bracket system for the playoffs unlike all the other sports, so the Sixers will be playing the Boston Celtics in the second round of the playoffs. Much better draw for them, so good luck!

30 Rock will return for a 7th and final season

Sad to see it go, but at least it will have a fitting end.  30 Rock will return to NBC for a 7th season consisting of 13 episodes, and it will mark the end of the series.  Yet somehow The Office is still going strong after being subpar for a while now.  Oh well, let's hope Parks and Recreation keeps going!

Move over 50 Cent

Everyone knows how many times 50 Cent was shot (9) but do you know how many times James Bond was shot at?  According to Gordon Stanger, James Bond has been shot at at least 4,662 times through all 22 Bond films.  I've done some things to waste time in my past, but to watch 2 entire days worth of movies counting all the shots fired at someone is ridiculous.  The chance of all of these shots not being fatal is so low, it's basically 0.  He may be a great spy, but damn he is the luckiest man in the world.  Sorry Lou Gehrig.

RIP playoff beard

Maurice Sendak wasn't the only death from yesterday; with the Flyers pathetic loss to the Devils they were eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and my playoff beard ceased to exist. RIP

Maurice Sendak, dead at 83...

... his hairpiece was 24.  Sorry, had to throw in a BASEketball joke there, it was too good to pass up.  But seriously, Maurice Sendak passed away this morning at the age of 83 due to complications after a recent stroke.  If you don't recognize the name, he's the author of Where the Wild Things Are (and some other children's books apparently).  Ironically, he didn't like children.  Here's a part 1 of a recent interview of Sendak on The Colbert Report:

I can't believe I haven't posted anything about Zach Galifianakis' hilarious "Between Two Ferns" before, but at least I'm doing it now.  The latest installment -a full episode- aired last night before Comedy Central's the Comedy Awards.  What's that you say? The Avengers sets record for opening weekend with over $200 million *UPDATE*

Yep, you read that right. The latest super hero flick, The Avengers, set a new record for opening weekend box office.  In just 3 days it has grossed an estimated $200.3 million domestically.  $80.5 million of that take was on Friday alone, making it the second highest single day total.  Saturday brought in another $69.7 million for The Avengers, making it the largest Saturday total of all time.  These numbers are all without the international totals, which have set records as well.  It'll be interesting to see how The Dark Knight Rises responds later this year.

UPDATE: The film grossed more than studio estimates, and finished with a 3 day total of  $207.4 million.  Wow. Already setting for best Saturday of all time, it also set the record for best Sunday of all time.
