Apple has more cash than the US Government?

Yep.  $75.876 billion vs. $73.768 billion.  I'm not surprised, either.  Great country we live in!

Hunter Pence?

Umm, can someone pinch me please? What a great day to be a Philly sports fan. Apparently the Phillies have signed the Astro's Hunter Pence in exchange for 4 prospects. Pence is definitely gone too, as he left mid-game tonight. Unbelievable.

Eagles sign Vince Young AND Nnamdi Asomugha???

It appears so!  The Eagles are certainly making up for the lack of football this summer, signing QB Vince Young to a one year deal, CB Nnamdi Asomugha to a 5 year deal, DE Jason Babin to a 5 year deal, WR Johnnie Lee Higgins to a 1 year deal, and TE Donald Lee to a 1 year deal.  This all comes after trading QB Kevin Kolb for CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie a day earlier.  Wow.  Let's play some football!

Good-bye Kolb!

Hello Rodgers-Cromartie! Great move by the Eagles, trading Kevin Kolb for Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a 2nd round draft pick.  What a defensive backfield with Asante Samuel and now Rodgers-Cromartie.  The Eagles defense definitely needed a boost from last year, and this will certainly help.

New episodes of South Park to air October 5

Not much else to say other than to mark October 5th on your calendars, when the second half of South Park's 15th season will air.  It'll be interesting to see what happens with the continuity of the show, considering the events of the first half's finale.

"Catfish" is fake.

What do you think?

Let's play some damn football!

Finally! The NFL lockout is over! In a joint statement by the players and owners, it was announced that a 10 year CBA agreement has been reached. It's about time too, since the season is scheduled to start in September.  Here's the details of the agreement:

Player health and safety

  • Offseason programs reduced by five weeks with OTAs cut from 14 per team to 10. Limited practice time and contact, limited full-contact practices and more days off for players.
  • Players can remain in medical plan for life.
  • Regular season limited to 16 games through 2012 season.
  • $50 million annually earmarked for medical research and healthcare programs.

Retirees

  • $900 million to $1 billion earmarked for retired player benefits over the next decade with $620 million ticketed for pre-1993 retirees.

Free agency

  • Players unrestricted after four accrued seasons.

Rookie contracts

  • Drafted players get four-year deals (with club option for fifth year on first rounders), undrafted players get three-year deals.
  • Each rookie class is allotted a maximum "total compensation" package.
  • "Strong anti-holdout rules."
  • Funds previously allotted to rookie pool reallocated to veterans and retirees.

Salary cap
  • $120.4 million in 2011 and clubs must utilize 99% of space.

25 Funniest Scenes in Sports Movie History

I've picked out my favorite (though I disagree with some of it), but read the full list at Bleacher Report.

12. BASEketball

It probably wasn't Trey Parker and Matt Stone's best work, but at least it wasn't as bad as Orgazmo. This film definitely had its moments, as the video shows.

These guys gave us South Park, so they're forever in my good graces. And if baseball was half as exciting as this, I would actually watch it.

Sin City 2 moving forward!

From ComingSoon.net:

Long-anticipated, Robert Rodriguez's sequel to his and Frank Miller's 2005 Sin City looks like it's finally getting ready to hit the big screen.

"Frank has written a script for 'Sin City 2,'" Rodriguez just announced in Comic-Con's Hall H, adding, "It could shoot as early as later this year."

Though the film will feature the title "A Dame to Kill For" and will adapt that original Frank Miller story, it will also feature two all-new stories set in the Sin City universe. The title for one of them was revealed for the first time as, "The Long Bad Night".

At this point is unknown which actors might return for the sequel, though the "Dame to Kill For" story again features Marv (Mickey Rourke) and Nancy (Jessica Alba).
I hope Mickey Rourke and Jessica Alba return for this film, they were great in the first one and I can't imagine anyone else taking their places, especially Rourke.

It's now up to the players

Earlier today, the NFL owners voted 31-0 in favor of the current CBA (Oakland abstained).  In order to end the NFL lockout, the players will now have to vote in favor of the CBA.  Myself, and all NFL fans, hope they vote ASAP; this lockout is getting old and we all want football!

Live-action Captain Planet Movie?

Y-E-S YES!!! It's about damn time.

From ComingSoon.net:

Cartoon Network has signed a development agreement with action-adventure producer Don Murphy and partner Susan Montford and their company Angry Filmworks to develop a live-action motion picture based on the groundbreaking, environment-saving animated hero, Captain Planet and the Planeteers, it was announced today by Stuart Snyder, president and COO of Turner Broadcasting System Inc.s Animation, Young Adults and Kids Media division (AYAKM). The agreement gives Murphy and his company the exclusive rights to develop and package the property and advance it towards production.

25 Cartoons You Never Knew Were Voiced By Celebrities

Pretty interesting list, I knew a few of them but a lot were surprises.  Uncle Phil as Shredder? Whaaaaat?  And aside from voicing Rocko as you see below, Carlos also voiced the Taco Bell Dog.

15 Best Minor Breaking Bad Characters

Ranked by "crazy".  Click here to read the list.

I'm just glad to finally have new episodes of Breaking Bad airing again, it's been a year!  As for the list, I wouldn't really consider Gus a minor character at this point, but it does recall some truly crazy characters.

11 Worst Advice Given By the Old Man in Legend of Zelda

11. "Ones Who Does Not Have Triforce Can't Go In."
The Old Man (or, more accurately, his Japanese-to-English translator) isn't so strong on subject-verb agreement. But if you can plow past that, this is mildly useful advice. Well... not so much advice in the Confucius sense, more in like a bouncer at a club telling you, "You can't come in here wearing those shoes. And no, I'm not impressed that it looks like you have five rubber toes."

Yet another "Best Of" from Reel Big Fish

Apparently Reel Big Fish release another "Best Of" compilation recently, unbeknownst to me.  It has a lot of the same songs as their previous CD, "A Best of Us... For the Rest of Us", which followed "Greatest Hit and More".  The latter wasn't released by the band, but was the last release under their former record label Jive.  RBF has since re-recorded nearly their entire catalog in an effort to gain the rights to their songs.  This new CD, a "Bigger Better Bonus Deluxe Version", is basically a re-record of the previous "Best Of", but with added songs and an added disc of cover songs.  Buy it below!

US Women's Soccer team advances to World Cup Final

Congrats to the US Women's Soccer team, who advanced to the 2011 FIFA World Cup Final after beating France 3-1.  I know soccer -not to mention women's soccer- isn't appreciated much unless a team is doing good, but they deserve some praise.  Good luck in the Final!

Emotional Stress?

Ok, I'll come right out and say it: Derek Jeter is a pussy.  He opted NOT to play in tonights MLB All-Star Game, due to emotional (and physical, somehow) stress due to pursuing his 3,000th hit.  Don't get me wrong that's a tremendous accomplishment, but for a veteran player like Jeter the 3,000th hit should be no different from any other. Hell, he hit a homerun for the milestone hit, and had 4 others in the same game.  Where was all this stress during that game?  If you don't want to play, don't play.  But don't come out and give some bullshit excuse like "stress".  You play the game for a living, any stress you have has been present since you started playing.  End rant.

Even after that rant, I'm glad to see him not playing simply because it gives the National League a better chance to win.  With the way the Phillies are playing, home-field advantage in the World Series could be tremendous.

Phillies at the Break

What a way to end the first half (or so) of the 2011 season.  The Phillies demolished the Braves 14-1 to head into the All-Star Break tied for a franchise best with 57 wins (and only 34 losses).  That's good for the best record in MLB, and the largest division lead at 3.5 games.  With the way the starting pitching has been, I really can't see this team not finishing as strong as they've started.  Next stop: another division crown and 100 wins.

Also, congrats to the Phillies All-Star representatives: Roy Halladay (starting pitcher), Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, Placido Polanco, and Shane Victorino (fan vote).  Only Roy and Cliff are playing in the game, but good luck to the NL regardless.

On the way to Ocean City, Maryland for the week!! I'll try to keep up with the blog in the meantime, so stay tuned.

What a douchebag

I really don't have to explain myself on this one; Brian Wilson's nickname is "Fear the Beard", which is a phrase, and this video speaks for itself:

Yeah, douchebag.

Another observation from the road...

I hate when people throw their cigarette butts out the window. I mean its already a dirty habit, now with littering thrown on top.  Of course the filters are the problem since they don't bio-degrade, even though they're meant to help.  Oh well.
