Yep, another sign of the Apocalypse

Remember the 1988 comedy Twins? No? It wasn't good.  It starred Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger as twins. Seriously.  And now there's a sequel planned, called... Triplets.  Starring DeVito, Schwarzenegger, and Eddie Murphy as the triplets.  Yep.

Anchorman 2

I don't know how I missed this yesterday, but it was announced there will indeed be an Anchorman 2.  Will Ferrell and the rest of the crew -at least Paul Rudd and Steve Carell- will return for the second round.  I was surpised to find out it's been a whole 8 years since The Legend of Ron Burgundy but I have no doubts the sequel will be just as funny.  I will be interesting to see how the characters are now, considering Carell's career took off shortly after the original hit the silver screen.  Watch the announcement from Ron Burgundy himself below.

NFL makes some big changes

While the 17 game/18 week regular season has yet to be implemented, the NFL has changed a few rules starting in the 2012 season.  For one, all turnovers will be automatically reviewed from the upstairs booth official prior to the next snap.  This will be much the same as how all scoring plays are automatically reviewed.  Looks like there will be a lot fewer challenges this year, which will help speed the game up to be honest and assure accurate calls on the field the first time.

The second change is one that has been asked for for years; teams can no longer win an overtime game with a first-possession field goal.  This is the current rule for playoff games, but will now be active during all games.  Aside from a first-possession field goal, however, games can still be won with a touchdown on the first possession or a field goal on any other (sudden death).  Changes can still be made, but this is a welcome change.

NT?

Everyone knows the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, often abbreviated as TMNT.  While a reboot of the series is set to be released in December of 2013, it may not be quite the same as you remember.  Producer Michael Bay said earlier in the week that instead of mutants, the turltes would be of alien origin.  Drop the M from TMNT.  Now, according to sources, the turtles won't even be teenagers, due to marketing.  Drop the first T.  That leaves us with NT, and apparently the title will now just be Ninja Turtles.  Next thing you know they'll change them from ninjas to samurais or something, and then the turtles to frogs.  Don't be surprised to see Adult Alien Samurai Frogs instead.

Batman gets pulled over

Man, I wish there was a video for this!  A Batman man from Montgomery County, Maryland was pulled over in his Bat Mobile Lamborghini for not having license plates.  Bruce Wayne The anonymous wealthy man Bruce Wayne was actually on his way home from a children's hospital where he dresses as the Caped Crusader to cheer them up.  Fortunately, he was still wearing the costume when he got pulled over, and someone snapped a photo:

Hangover 3 coming in 2013

From ComingSoon:

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures are reteaming with Todd Phillips for "The Hangover Part III," the third installment in the record-breaking comedy franchise, which is slated for release on
May 24, 2013. The announcement was made today by Jeff Robinov, President Warner Bros. Pictures Group.

"The Hangover Part III" will star Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis, who will reprise the roles of Phil, Stu and Alan, collectively known to moviegoers as the Wolfpack. In the previous two films, the three friends' attempts to plan a celebration have resulted in disaster for them, but led to a combined billion-dollar success at the worldwide box office.

In making the announcement, Robinov stated, "We are extremely pleased to have Todd Phillips and the guys back together again for another 'Hangover,' and we look forward to collaborating with them on another great movie."

Phillips said, "I'm so excited to embark on another 'Hangover' film with Bradley, Ed and Zach. We're going to surprise a lot of people with the final chapter we have planned. It will be a fitting conclusion to our three-part opera of mayhem, despair and bad decisions."

Not worth it

Just drove past a Rita's. Had to be 50 people in line, with another 25 walking towards it. All that for what, a free $3 treat? Unbelievable. This gets my "not worth it" stamp. Just like that time Taco Bell gave away a free hard taco; a whopping 89 cents savings. Yet cars were wrapped around the block for that. Not worth it!

Cash for Gold

New York, Monday, March 19, 2012 - Cartman starts his own gem shopping channel on an all-new episode of "South Park" titled, "Cash For Gold," premiering Wednesday, March 21 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central.
Cartman launches a gemstones network show and creates a very lucrative business. Stan searches for the real value of a piece of jewelry that was a gift from his Grandpa. Meanwhile, Cartman's lucrative new business preys upon an extremely vunerable clientele.

Another sign of the Apocalypse

Just found out Jersey Shore is returning for a sixth season. That's bad enough on its own (this season was so dull and boring) but apparently a pregnant Snooki will be returning with the rest of the cast. Might as well just call it 'Jersey Mom'. Ugh, kill me now.

Red Bull inventor dies

The inventor of hugely popular Red Bull energy drinks, Chaleo Yoovidhya passed away Saturday in his native Thailand.  He was in his 80s (DOB not confirmed) and dies of natural causes.  Surprisingly, Chaleo turned what was once a simple pick-me-up for Thai construction workers and truck drivers into a worldwide brand.  Everyone has at least heard of Red Bull, with most having at least 1 in their lifetime.  The logo is plastered everywhere, and Red Bull is continuously advertising on tv, radio, and in the sports world.  At his time of death, Yoovidhya was the 205th richest man in the world, with a net worth of around $5 BILLION.  Wow.

St. Patrick's Day LIVE BLOG

10:06 AM - This is my first attempt at a live blog.  I figured St. Patrick's Day would be a good challenge.  Obviously I'll update throughout the day as my drink total climbs and my ability to function declines.  I'll be taking pictures of all the drinks, but since I'll be updating from my phone I may have to edit them in later.  Regardless, stay tuned throughout the day, it should be fun!

10:27 AM - Here's a shot of me and my girlfriend before the festivities unfold.  I'm sure this will be a good comparison later in the day.

10:35 AM - First drink of the day.  Let's call it an Irish coffee. Wanted to start earlier, but hey, I got all day.

10:56 AM - Girlfriend made me breakfast! It's delicious! Time for another drink soon, too.

12:08 PM - Irish Car Bomb time! Kinda disappointed it's afternoon already.

2 #2 seeds upset in NCAA Tournament

Man, people are gonna be pissed tonight! People's brackets are all kinda of messed up now.  #2 seeds Duke and Missouri lost to #15 seeds Norfolk State and Lehigh, respectively.

Irish Car Bomb

First off, happy early St. Patrick's Day!  No idea who the guy was, but thinking of him as the Saint of drinking alcohol is good enough in my book.  Oh yeah, and the whole Irish thing.  So combining the two, we get Irish drinks; here's the delicious Irish Car Bomb.

But first, a few things.  It's called an "Irish" Car Bomb for a reason.  Use Irish ingredients, like Guinness (a must), Bailey's Irish Cream, and Jameson or another Irish whiskey.  Sorry, no Jack Daniels.  Also, pour the whiskey first, then the cream.  If done correctly -try pouring over an upside down spoon- the cream will form a top layer separate from the whisky for a more aesthetic look.

Stormtroopers 365

For now, go here.  I'll edit later.  Nearly a year later, I'm finally editing this post (it's January 22, 2013). I'm sure most of you have already visited the link below and figured out the theme of album. But if not, it's essentially a year's worth of photos of Stormtroopers in various poses and settings. Taken by Flickr user Stefan, it's a pretty neat set and totally worth a look. Check the album out here! First and last photos below:

RIP AIM

Well, it seems AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) has finally been axed.  AOL recently fired mostly everyone on their AIM team, leaving just a few support staff in tact.  Basically, AIM will still be functional, but it will no longer be updated and thus I'm sure it's few remaining users will dwindle down in no time.  I stopped using AIM probably 6 years ago, so I'm surprised it was even still running currently.  Regardless, it was fun back in the day, and I'm sure everyone has at least 1 AIM conversation still saved on their computer.  Am I right?

Umm, duh?

Reverse Cowgirl

It's hard to believe it, but South Park is about to begin its 16th season this Wednesday.  Unbelievable.  Check out the press release below (via SPS), and also be on the lookout for the Season 15 DVD set.  It comes out Tuesday, March 27th.

NEW YORK, Monday March 12, 2012 After a South Park citizen meets with an unfortunate accident, the TSA steps in to prevent it from happening again in an all-new episode of "South Park" titled, "Reverse Cowgirl," premiering Wednesday, March 14 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on COMEDY CENTRAL.

One of the boys had been told time and time again about leaving the toilet seat up after he goes to the bathroom, but he didnt listen. His actions have consequences and ultimately result in an unimaginable catastrophe.

I'm really liking "Simple Song" from The Shins upcoming release, Port of Morrow; can't wait to hear the rest. It's been long overdue. Here's a video of them performing on last night's SNL:

"Figure It Out" returning to Nickelodeon

Any kid growing up in the 90s should remember the Nickelodeon show "Figure It Out".  I'll admit, it wasn't the best show, but it was a guilty pleasure of mine.  Plus Summer Sanders was pretty hot.  Anyway, Nick is bringing the show back with 40 new episodes set to film in April.  If that doesn't sound like good news, it seems like Summer Sanders is returning as well!

Kony 2012 (UPDATED)

Please spend a half hour of your time to watch this video, and if you wish to donate/support the cause, take a view more minutes to pledge at Invisible Children.  This guy needs to be stopped, so spread the word.  Whether it be linking to here, another site, putting up posters/sticker, posting on Facebook, or simply telling a friend, action needs to be taken by all of us.  Let's make Joseph Kony famous.  Kony 2012.

EDIT: There is no doubt that awareness of Joseph Kony needs to be spread, but the issue of donating to the charity (and any charity) should be considered.  For a counter-point, check out this website, if for no other reason than to educate yourself on both sides before forming an opinion.

EDIT EDIT: To a counterpoint to the counterpoint (does that make it a regular point?), Invisible Children has posted the video below.  More information can be found here.  Regardless of what you believe, awareness of this issue is at an all time high, which is absolutely a good thing.  Keep it going.

Art in the eye of a needle

Miniature scultpures are nothing new in the art community (see my previous post on pencil art), but these sculptures done in the eyes of needles up the ante.  They're from Willard Wigan, and they're truly amazing.  Check out a few examples below, then see more at Buzzfeed.

Peyton Manning to be released by Colts

I have to say, I'm quite surprised to hear this, though it does make some sense.  The Colts plan to release 4 time MVP QB Peyton Manning on Wednesday, and will likely use the first pick in the NFL Draft on QB Andrew Luck.  I understand teams often replace their old players with younger ones, but Peyton was by no means experiencing any type of decline.  It will be interesting to see how both the Colts, and whatever team Manning signs for, finish the next season.

Lenny Dykstra sentenced

Well, the Lenny Dykstra saga has sadly come to an end, as he was sentenced to 3 years in prison on grand theft auto charges.  The former Phillie has been on a downward spiral as of lately (and ever since he retired from the game) so this is just the icing on the cake.

Star Wars designer Ralph McQuarrie dead at 82

DVD
Ralph McQuarrie, the artist and designer instrumental in creating the look of Star Wars has passed away yesterday at the age of 82.  Ralph was instrumental in bringing A New Hope to the big screen, as George Lucas used his concept art and drawings to show studios in an effort to get his movie made.  He truly was a talented and respected man, and will certainly be missed.

If you'd like to show your respect, you can visit his Facebook page.

Stop motion "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" intro

I've always been fairly fond of stop motion animation; a few friends and I used to make our own stop motion videos (probably 5 frames per second). Maybe I'll post someday once they're converted. Anyway, here's a stop motion version of the intro to the 90s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon:

MLB announces playoff changes

The proposed changes to Major League Baseball's playoff system have been finalized.  There will now be 2 Wild Card teams in each league, who will then face each other in a one game playoff.  The winners of those games will advance to face the top-seeded division winners in the divisional series.

But wait, there's a Shayamalan twist!  Because the schedule was already agreed upon before the changes, the lower seeded teams will actually start the series with 2 home games (in order to avoid a travel day).  The higher seeded teams will finish off the 5 game series with 3 home games.  Interesting.

Tim Burton's "Frankenweenie" Trailer

Bill Murray says no to Ghostbusters 3

From Vulture:

What's Bill Murray afraid of? Ghosts, apparently: Though long courted for a role in Ghostbusters 3, Murray has flat out refused to sign on, says Dan Aykroyd. "At this point [the movie is] in suspended animation," Aykroyd tells the Telegraph. "The studio, the director Ivan Reitman and Harold Ramis feel there must be a way to do it, but Bill Murray will not do the movie. He doesn’t want to be involved. He’s got six kids, houses all over America. He golfs in these tournaments where they pay him to turn up and have a laugh. He’s into this life and living it. I know we’d have a lot of fun [but] I can’t be mad at him." Though Aykroyd insists that he's "not going to do a movie that exploits the franchise," he admits that he may recast Murray's role if that's what it takes.
I say with a decent script and remaining cast, they should shoot the movie with a CGI Murray.  Or he could somehow be a ghost?  Get me on the phone with Aykroyd please!
