Have Lord!

It's not racist since he's black, right? Still damn funny, with just a twang of salt.

All that's missing is some fried chicken and grape drink. (This is a joke people!) Have Lord.

Miller Lite

After watching the 459th Miller Lite commercial of my life, I realized something:

There is no "Miller" beer.  But there's a "lite" version of it somehow.  Bud Light is a watered down version of Budweiser, Coors Light is less-taste version of Coors, Yuengling Light Lager is reduced-calorie Yuengling Lager, Corona Light is a slightly lighter version of Corona... the list goes on.

Sure, Miller Brewing Company also makes Miller Genuine Draft and Miller High Life, but those have light counterparts as well.  After some research, (i.e. Wikipedia) I confirmed there is no "Miller" from which Miller Lite comes from.  Weird, but true.

In Memoriam of Michael Scott

Steve Carell's last episode of "The Office" aired Thursday, with a funny but sad exit by Michael Scott.  In memoriam, here's the 20 funniest moments in Michael Scott history, with plenty of videos.

MIO

I didn't want to fall for this after I saw the commercials on TV, but I finally went out and picked up a few at Target the other day.  And let me tell you, MIO is great.  Makes your water taste exactly like what flavor you choose, without all the sugar and calories.  They say there are 24 servings in a bottle, and I believe it.  You need very little MIO to get the full flavor effect.  Definitely try them out, I had Sweet Tea and Fruit Punch.  Recommended!

The playoff beard lives!

Movin' on! Flyers advance to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a dominating 5-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres. Finally played like they should.

The 14 Most Unintentionally Terrifying Statues in the World

From Cracked, it's the list of the 14 most unintentionally terrifying statues in the world.  With plenty of pictures, these statues are certainly worthy of this "honor".  I'd guess that some of these aren't so unintenional, however.  Here's just the first example:

Yeah, apparently it's supposed to be a man fighting off spirits shaped like, well, babies.  I mean, I can make a statue of Mike Vick beating up a dog and say it's a "spirit" in the form of a dog, but come on now.

Actually that sounds like a good idea.

Lenny Dykstra bailed out by...

...Charlie Sheen.

Yes, the latest in the Sheen Saga is that he posted 22.5K to bail Lenny "Nails" Dykstra out of jail.  Dykstra was incarcerated (embezzlement) for nearly a week before Sheen stepped in to help his friend.

'Ol Charlie went on to say this:
  • "The rendition guilty trolls that kidnapped my dear friend Nails clearly forgot that he's a fellow Vatican assassin and his best pal is a warlock."
Seriously.  I couldn't make that up if I tried.

NFL lockout over?

The NFL lockout is over (for now) which could be a good thing.  Obviously there will be a lot of appeals by the NFL, but the injuction granted to the players appears to be a step in the right direction.  Technically the NFL can resume its normal operations, it's just a matter of when and if they are willing.  There's still a ways to go towards an agreement, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

3 for 3

Wins across the board for Philly sports today, can't complain there. Sixers delay the inevitable, Halladay with another gem, and Flyers force a game 7 at home.

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter to everyone, hope you all enjoy your day (and food!).

Also, a little story.  Every year my aunt and uncle hid a dozen or so hard boiled eggs around our front yard, and leave a note from the "Easter Bunny" on the door.  My aunt writes the note (a new one every year) and my uncle will hide the eggs.  Sometimes in the past we'd miss one or two, which we realized a few days later from the rotten egg smell.  This prompted us to get the exact count of eggs from our aunt and uncle every year.

So this year my uncle must have been hiding the eggs fairly late at night, as apparently there were police looking around the front yard with flashlights.  I never really thought about it before, but honestly how can walking around someone's front yard (at night) and posting a note on the front door NOT appear like a robbery/crime?

If you don't believe me, you should try it out and see how it goes.  I'll wait.

Sculptures carved from pencils

The 49 year old Dalton Ghetti spends much of his time making mini sculptures, using only pencils.  He carves out the graphite and even the wood of ordinary pencils, creating highly detailed works of art.  Time consuming, but definitely awe-inspiring.  Here's an example:

Come On and Get It (Up in 'dem Guts)

Zach Galifianakis featuring Fiona Apple:

Jim Carrey to guest star on "The Office"

From the Huffington Post:

Jim Carrey will be joining a slew of other guest stars (Will Arnett, Ricky Gervais, Ray Romano, James Spader, Catherine Tate) on "The Office" season finale.  No word on if he will be on any future episodes, as the replacement for Steve Carell's 'Michael Scott' is still undecided.

The season 7 finale of "The Office" airs May 19.

I'd like to think this is his playoff beard.

Make Some Noise

Pretty awesome...

'Shyamalan Twist' in Gaga vs. Weird Al!

In a twist of M. Night Shyamalan proportions, it turns out that Gaga approved Weird Al's parody of "Born This Way.  Apparently Gaga had never even heard of the parody... her manager just felt like lying to Al, telling him she denied it.  After releasing the song on YouTube, word spread, Gaga loved it, and gave Al the green light.  Listen to "I Perform This Way" below.  Expect a music video for the song too, that should be interesting.

Lady Gaga denies Weird Al

Full story at Weird Al's Blog, but the basica jist is that Lady Gaga denied Weird Al use of her song "Born This Way".  Al, and any other artist parodying a song, doesn't actually need permission by law, but he takes it upon himself to personally receive permission.  Class act.

He was also going to donate all the proceeds of "I Perform This Way" to the Human Rights Campaign.  Another class act.

Gaga apparently needed to hear the actual song (it wasn't yet recorded) as just putting the lyrics Al rushed to her to her own music wasn't enough.  More class acts.

Weird Al then cut his family vacation short in order to record the entire song in order to get Gaga's approval.  Class act yet again.

So Al got approval, right?

Wrong.  Gaga denied Weird Al permission after all that.  Al started with a simple idea of a song and ended up writing and recording a full version just for Lady Gaga, but that, along with donating all the proceeds, still wasn't enough.  Weird Al Yankovic is one of the nicest guys in music; can't say the same for Lady Gaga.

Get drunk, not fat!

Great site that tells gives you the calorie:alcohol ratio, i.e. tells you the best way to get drunk for the lowest calories.  Keep in mind it doesn't take into account mixers with calories, so that will often skew the ratio.

The top 5 (ratio)
Maker's Mark Whisky (18.7)
Everclear (18.9)
Jose Cuervo Gold/Silver and Crown Royal Special Reserve (19.2)
Popov 100, Smirnoff 100/80 Vodkas, and Bacardi 151 (19.4)
Smirnoff 90 Vodka, Patron Anejo, Bacardi Gold, Jack Daniels, and Johnnie Walker Red Label (19.5)

The bottom 5 (minus non-alcoholic beers)
Bacardi Silver (48)
Smirnoff Ice (48.2)
Kahlua (54.6)
Bailey's (67.8)
Tilt Orange 4% (76.8)

Popular drinks
Vodka and Sugar Free Red-Bull (20.2)
Coors Light (24.3)
Miller Lite (24.9)
Bud Light (26.2)
Four Loko (28.1)
Jager (35.3)
Rum and Coke - 20% rum, 80% cola (36.6)
White Russian (42.6)

South Park in the news

Recent South Park News articles, all good reads:

"What What (In The Butt)" creators explain why they're suing South Park
South Park creators apologize for borrowing from College Humor Inception parody (+video)
Man who threatened 'South Park' creators gets 25 years in prison

Not breaking news, but still recent and I'm sure a lot of you haven't heard about it.  The last article is especially intriguing, since the supposed death threats against Matt and Trey about their episodes "200" and "201" turned out to be a bunch of bullshit.  As for the "What What (In the Butt)" guys.... really?  You're going to sue South Park for basically making your song more popular?  Watch out Butters.  I'm glad the College Humor guys who did the Inception parody were cool with an apology; pretty much any parody of Inception would probably have extremely similar dialogue anyway.

Tracy Morgan = WTF?

Just watched Tracy Morgan on George Lopez (don't ask) and... WTF?  What is that man on?  What did I just watch?  Either he was hopped up on something, or he actually is as retarded as he sounds.  I really am at a loss for words.  Video when available so you can understand where I'm coming from.

Video here!

Busy night for Philly sports!

Phillies play the Brewers, Flyers face the Sabres in game 3 of the playoffs, and Sixers try to beat the Heat in game 2 of the playoffs.  I'll be flipping through the channels for the next few hours!

Phillies lost 6-3 in 12 innings (Kyle Kendrick is a scrub)
Flyers won 4-2, taking a 2-1 series lead (Boosh looked good in net)
Sixers got blown out 94-73, down 2-0 in the series (No chance)

8 Movie Special Effects You Won't Believe Aren't CGI

From Cracked.com, movies include The Dark Knight, Independence Day, T2, The Lord of the Rings, Dracula, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Apollo 13, and Escape from New York.  There's some stuff in there that most people would bet all their money that it were CGI, but they'd be broke.  Some of it just seems like way too much time and effort; had it been CGI I feel it would have been cheaper.

12.78 MPH

It's not quite the 88 MPH needed for the DeLorean to time travel, but it is the average speed of this year's Boston Marathon winner.  Kenyan Geoffrey Mutai won the 26.2 mile race with a time of 2:03:02, a new record (though not officially recognized due to a strong tailwind).  To put this athletic feat into perspective, that's like running 26 consecutive 4 minute and 42 second miles.  Holy shit.

BASEketball

The origins of my BASEketball website go way back to a class I had in high school in 2002/2003, Internet Web Design (I think).  One of the projects in the class was to make an informative "web page" on an interest we had... I had just seen BASEketball for the first time and loved it.  I decided to make my project based on BASEketball, and shortly after decided to make it into a real website.  I didn't have money for webspace, so I signed up for one of those free hosts.  I landed at 1colony, and created my site from one of the 4 or so templates.  It's actually still standing at http://www.baseketball.1colony.com/ if you wanna check it out, but beware of pop-ups!!! (That site is actually the third Google result for "BASEketball" believe it or not.)

Eventually the site ate up enough bandwitdth (1colony shut me down for a bit) and attracted enough attention (probably due to the lack of any competition) to become affiliated with other websites for Matt Stone and Trey Parker.  These sites included the official Cannibal! The Musical site, CrapTV, and the now-defunct South Park Alliance.  Ray from SPA gave me some server space on his server, and the site was reborn albeit the same shitty template.  Once on the SPA server, I was able to offer much more to my fans, including audio clips, songs, more photos, and videos.

Around the same time, Mattt Potter (yes, his name is spelled with three Ts) from CrapTV (personal friends with Matt and Trey), notified me that an Actor's Cut of BASEketball was potentially in the works.  (I'll have an audio clip to prove this sometime soon.)  I couldn't break the news just yet, but was excited nonetheless.  There were even talks to make my site official, since the previous one had long been gone from the interent.  Unfortunately, after asking Matt Stone himself in a South Park Studios live chat, it appeared as if the Actor's Cut wouldn't see the light of day.  (Transcript of the chat up soon.) The site continued after that, but without much news it wasn't too much of a priority.  I updated a handful of times a year, basically whenever I thought about it again.  Eventually, Ray's site became inactive sometime in 2007 (I think), and so too did my server space.  http://www.baseketball.spalliance.net/ was dead; having last been updated on August 19, 2006.

Since demand wasn't very high for my site, I never really made an effort to find a new home for it.  The old 1colony site was still around, and I still had all the files for the site on my hard drive.  Every so often I'd have talks with Ray and some of the other CrapTV guys about getting the site back online, but nothing ever came of it.  I was in college from 2006-2010, so honestly a BASEketball website wasn't a top priority for me.  However, it was never forgotten...

... Which brings me to today.  Recently, on Facebook, I had been posting various links, pictures, videos, etc on my wall.  I felt it would be better suited in a blog format, and definitely had an interest in starting one.  I finally started this blog last Thursday (the 14th).  What's this have to do with BASEketball?  Well, when figuring out what to put on my blog, I remembered I had an entire website sitting on my hard drive.  I was going to cram it all on one page of my blog, but figured it was easier just to make a new blog exclusively for the site.  And I did just that; I give to you the newly relaunched Unofficial Official BASEketball site!

The site can also be accessed by clicking on the "BASEketball" tab on this blog, and following the link.  The site isn't 100% yet, but very functional.  Head over there to see what I updated, and stay tuned for more updates.

Oh, and if you don't already own the DVD, buy it now.  You don't even have to get off your ass, just click below.

The Doctor is in

If by chance you haven't had Dr. McGillicuddy's Mentholmint Schnapps, then do yourself a favor and get a bottle (or two) ASAP.  It's been called "liquid Christmas".  I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Here's the Doctor's Legacy:

"Being of sound mind and even better spirits, I, Dr. Aloysius Percival McGillicuddy, born in the year of our Lord, 1808, bequeath my home, livestock, and half interest in the Shady Eye Saloon to my fifth wife, Hermione, age 22.

To my son, I leave my watch, dueling pistols, and favorite pipe.

To the world, I present the recipe for Dr. McGillicuddy’s Schnapps, whose intense taste made me a bit of a legend in these parts.

It’s good chasing a beer, even better on-the-rocks."

Awesome guy.  Just be sure to put it in the freezer, the colder this treat is the better!

South Park to run through at least 2013

Just before South Park is set to air its 15th (!) season, it was announced that the show would continue for at least 2 more seasons, through 2013.  This would bring the total episode count up to 251 by the end of that year.

The article talks a lot about Matt Stone and Trey Parker current Broadway musical, The Book of Mormon, among other interesting things.  Worth a read, for sure.

Real Mario Kart

Don't know how I missed this one but it's AWESOME.

And the first one:

Philly

Cliff Lee on the mound for the Phillies tonight (as I type), and the Flyers open up their playoff series against the Sabers.  Should be a good night!

Sit down Werth!

Thanks a lot Bin Laden

This is a post...

...about "This is a Book" from Demetri Martin.  Just received my copy in the mail today, and even the "about the author" section is hilarious.  Definitely order a copy, fan of Demetri or not.

Black Swan and Aronofsky

Just got done watching Black Swan... excellent film, but basically "The Wrestler" with Natalie Portman instead of Mickey Rourke (both Aronofsky films).  Also bought Pi and The Fountain to round out the rest of his films.  Along with Requiem for a Dream, the 3 I've seen have been pretty crazy and intense, but great films.

Welcome to the B Long Blog!

Long story short, I decided to start a blog.  I'll be posting whatever I see fit, whether it be random stories, news, pictures, or links to other sites.  Stay tuned!
