Zach Galifianakis set to star on upcoming FX series

FX announced today that they’ve given a series order to a show co-created by Galifianakis, Louis C.K., and Jonathan Krisel (Portlandia, Saturday Night Live). Entitled Baskets, Galifianakis will play Chip Baskets, a man who dreams of becoming a professional clown, but after a failed attempt at attending a fancy Parisian clowning college, he takes the only clowning job he can find, working at a local rodeo. The ten-episode first season will air in 2016, which gives them plenty of time to figure out how to apply clown makeup to a beard.

'The Strain' picked up for another season

I've thoroughly enjoyed the first season of The Strain on FX so far, so I am glad to see it get picked up for another season. From USA Today:

"FX likes the the infectious appeal of The Strain. 

In an expected move, the cable network Tuesday ordered a 13-episode second season of the vampire drama (Sunday, 10 p.m. ET/PT). The series, which is midway through its first season, has drawn a healthy audience of young adults, ranking as 2014's top new cable series in that category. Season 2 will premiere next summer."

I honestly haven't been this excited about a new TV series since.... you know, I actually don't get excited for new series much at all! I usually hear about them from a friend or read about them on the internet; after that I play catch up and usually pick up the series around season 2 or 3. I'd say the only time I watched a series from episode 1 was the new Arrested Development season on Netflix, but that wasn't even a new series (more of a reboot if anything). Anyway, Fargo on FX will likely be a series I watch from the beginning considering everything I've seen thus far looks great. Watch the first 7 minutes below and judge for yourself:

Zach Galifianakis and Louis C.K. to have a pilot for FXX

FX has ordered a comedy pilot from Zach Galifianakis, the network announced today. Galifianakis created and will star in the show, which will be co-written with Louis C.K., who will also serve as one of the show's executive producers. This is the first series from C.K. under his recent production deal with FX, and it's one of a dozen comedy pilots currently in production at FX and FXX. No word yet on the show's style, format, subject matter, or production schedule, but the important part is that it's a show from Zach Galifianakis and Louis C.K.

An American Psycho TV series in the works

Interesting! It was feature a 50 year old Patrick Bateman, so the series will obviously be a sequel. From EW:

"In the new drama series, iconic serial killer Patrick Bateman, now in his mid-50’s but as outrageous and lethal as ever, takes on a protégé in a sadistic social experiment who will become every bit his equal — a next generation American Psycho"

Thoughts? It's been a while since American Psycho was on the big screen, so will the interest be there to justify a TV series? How would a series even work? It clearly couldn't be as graphic as the film, right? We'll see.

'Always Sunny' and 'The League' renewed for 2 years!

And also, FX is splitting into 2 channels, with the new FXX being for comedies like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and The League and the original FX being reserved for dramas. FXX will launch on September 2nd, with the 2 comedies anchoring the debut. 2 more seasons of hilarious shows and another comedy channel? Sounds great!

The League renewed for a fifth season

One, two, three, four, fifth! The best show about fanstasy football in the history of television, The League, has been renewed for a fifth season. It will air next year, but the 2 part season finale is tonight on FX!

Some new info about It's Always Sunny

Read the full article (it's not that long!) at Philly.com, but I'll highlight some key points:

• Mac and Dee's (Rob McElhenney and Kaitlyn Olson's) son Axel loves trash trucks, which lead to an episode idea.
• Said episode is called "The Gang Recylces Their Trash" and it will be out later this season.
• The episode deals with a trash strike in Philly, and the gang ends up repeating a sceme similar to the one in "The Gang Solves the Gas Crisis, though they are self-aware of this.
• If you didn't already know, Fat Mac is no more.
• The show will run at least through 2013, and the cast is in talks for a 10th season.
• Only 10 new episodes for the new season.
• This Thursday's premiere is called "Pop-Pop: The Final Solution" in which Dennis and Dee deal with their dying Nazi grandfather.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia returns for season 8 this Thursday at 10pm on FX, followed by the season 4 premiere of The League, which you should also watch if you haven't already.

No new Louie until 2014

Sad face. Much like Larry David did with the similar Curb Your Enthusiasm, Louis CK is taking a year off from Louie:

"I don't want to be making the doughnuts," C.K. said on a conference call. "I want it to be something that comes from somewhere important and stays funny."
 

The show will return in 2014, and I respect his decision to take some time off to make the show the best he can. Too many (most) shows these days churn out episode after episode with no creativity or heart.

The "new" cast of It's Always Sunny

There's gonna be a Fargo TV series

And yes, the Coen Brothers are involved as executive producers. FX is apparently "developing an hour-long project "loosely based" on the Coen Brothers' 1996 classic, Fargo... Not much more information yet, except that it's also titled Fargo and being written and executive produced by Noah Hawley, who created two ill-fated series, The Unusuals and My Generation, for ABC."  Should be interesting!

Always Sunny/The League Premiere Date

Unfortunately it won't be this month, but both It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (Season 8) and The League (Season 4) will premiere on FX Thursday October 11th, starting at 10pm. That's a whole hour of hilarious TV right there, I personally can't wait!

Stay tuned for the DVD releases of last years seasons, they'll be coming out soon, too.

Louie renewed for 4th season

It'll be 13 episodes airing on FX next year.

New Always Sunny tonight!

Personally, I've liked this season of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.  It started off a little ridiculous, and had a forgettable episode, but definitely hit its stride with "Chardee MacDennis" (which quickly jumped into my Top 10).  Tonight's ep is "The Gang Gets Trapped," and you can check out a preview clip here.

American Horror Story

I'm kind of intrigued by this show.  Sometimes it looks stupid/cheesy, and other times it looks like it could be really good.  It looks creepy all the time, at least.  It premieres on FX next Wednesday (the 5th) which means I'll wait til a replay to watch it (South Park owns that timeslot).  Before that, however, you can watch the first 5 minutes below:

The 10 Most Vile Actions of the Paddy's Pub Gang

The Gang on “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” — which returns for its seventh season on September 15 — means to do well. They really do. It’s just that Dennis, Dee, Mac, Charlie, and Frank’s good intentions often clash with the fact that they’re awful, conniving, despicable, racist, and misogynistic people. Their moral decrepitude makes “Sunny” one of the best sitcoms on TV, and its success has paved the way for FX to make other great comedies like “Louie,” “Archer,” and “The League.”

To tide you over until the premiere a month from now, here are the ten most revolting and rotten things the Gang from Philadelphia has done over the show’s first six seasons and 71 episodes, not one of which has anything to do with poor, dead-toothed Maureen Ponderosa.

10. Human Meat and Teabagging Cricket (“Mac and Dennis: Manhunters”)



Two things in this episode: 1) Because Dee and Charlie, in a rare plot together, keep eating his venison, Frank tells them that they’re actually eating human meat, and although the fake cannibals are disgusted, they don’t care and crave more human flesh. (It’s one of my favorite inter-Gang disgusting moments, because they’re usually destroying other people’s lives, not their own.) 2) After a few beers too many, Mac and Dennis agree that the only game worth hunting is an animal that can fight back. In this case, a human: Rickety Cricket. As if the poor bastard hasn’t gone through enough—Dee said she’d kiss him if he ate a horse turd, she didn’t; he quit being a priest for Dee, only for her to lose interest; the entire Gang got him addicted to crack—he now also watch for Mac and Dennis, who will teabag their prey when they catch him. Why teabagging? “What’s not to like? Cricket with a face full of pubes? Hilarious!”
