The Mute Button

From the folks over at Improv Everywhere, here's their latest mission:

As you can see, it's called "The Mute Button" for a reason.  If you liked this mission (or even if you didn't), definitely check our the rest of their stuff at the link above.  They do some really cool videos, and always seem to be ahead of the other flash mobs.  Their tagline, "we cause scenes", is certainly deserving.

The Hangover Part II at the Box Office

Well, the much anticipated sequel to The Hangover put up tremendous numbers at the box office over this extended weekend. Overall, after just 5 days, it has grossed 137.4 million.  That total already puts The Hangover Part III in the top 10 R-rated comedies of all time (it needs to double its box office total to overtake its predecessor for #1).  It raked in 86.5 million over the weekend, which set a record for an R-rated comedy and places it behind only The Matrix Reloaded for R-rated films.  Basically the same plot as the first movie?  Who cares!

More details at ComingSoon.net and day-by-day breakdowns at The Numbers.

100th Post Extravaganza!!!

That's right, it's my 100th blog post!  A milestone indeed! Before I get to the post, a few things:
-If you haven't already done so, please "Like" the blog on Facebook, suggest to your friends, and share online. It would be much appreciated!
-The links at the top of my blog (Sports, Movies, TV, etc, etc) link to pages where you can find every blog post I made in each of those topics.  If you would rather view the posts by date, check the archives.
-I'm in the process of adding tags to all my older posts, and that will make sorting/searching a helluva lot easier.  Plus it'll basically eliminate the need for my pages, so I could do something else with those shortly.  Any ideas?
-The BASEketball page links to my BASEketball blog, so check that out too.  Or click the link.

I figured I wanted my 100th post to be something fairly big to represent the milestone.  I decided to do a list of 100 things I like; see if you agree.

Dumb newspaper

This is why local newspapers aren't always the best.

After a nice lose-the-lead-so-we-can-come-from-behind win, this is the picture chosen to represent the Phillies victory. Really? Not the first time this paper has done it either, often having pictures of double plays and caught stealings even during wins.

There are 91 movies in this picture...

Can you name them all?  Keep in mind they all take place in New York.

Yankees Suck

What do the words fuck, shit, bitch, asshole, and Yankees suck have in common?  They're all profanity, at least according to Major Leage Baseball. A Rays fan attending a Yankees vs. Rays game at the Rays' own stadium got escorted out for wearing a "Yankees Suck" t-shirt.  Apparently the shirt was profanity, as the season-ticket holder refused to take off or turn the shirt inside out.  He's written letters to the Rays ownership and the league, and rightfully so.  He stood up for himself, and doesn't deserve to miss any game he's paid for.  Thumbs up to Melton Little.

Review: The Hangover Part II

Just got back from seeing The Hangover Part II (and subsequently missing the end of that epic 19 inning Phillies game where Wilson Valdez got the win), and figured I'd give my review.  Spoiler free, if you're worried.

If you couldn't already tell from the trailer, the plot of The Hangover Part II is nearly identical to The Hangover's plot.  For most movies this would mean box office bust, but not for this one.  Set in Bangkok instead of Vegas, the Wolfpack gets drugged, spends a wild night partying, and loses Stu's fiance's brother Teddy instead of Doug.  They wake up in a random hotel room again, and have no idea what happened the night before.  They try to figure out what happened once again, all the while trying to find Teddy.

Part II has its share of violence, probably more than the previous installment.  Of course, it's always unexpected as we find out what's going on the same time as the characters.  The unexpectedness is part of what makes the films so good, in my opinion.  Even though my predictions were almost always wrong it's fun to guess, and crazy to see what they actually came up with.

Chow plays a much bigger role this time around, not only in screen time but also in importance.  I felt like his involvement (thanks to Alan) was a little forced at first, but it ended up making some sense in the end (and allowed for a great cameo by Paul Giammati).  Brian Callen makes a return appearance, but not as the same character from The Hangover.  Mike Tyson also returns in a surprise performance.  But perhaps the best actor in the entire movie was the monkey.  Seriously.

I do have to say that the sequel was much much raunchier, even more than the unrated edition of the first.  I saw enough penis to last me quite a while.  That being said, most of it wasn't just thrown in there for no reason, and it usually set up for a funny joke/scene.  Speaking of the jokes, they were spot on just like before.  Zach Galifianakis as Alan was hilarious again; I'm glad he played the role just as well.  The foul language obviously makes a return, but it's rarely just cursing for the sake of cursing.  Not to mention you shouldn't see this movie if you're worried about that kind of thing anyway.

All in all, The Hangover Part II was exactly as advertised; raunchy, hilarious, exciting, and fun.  I'm trying not to compare it to The Hangover too much, as I'd have to see it again to have a fair judgment.  After just the one viewing, however, it was pretty much on par with the first.  A little bit more "out there" or over the top, but I feel they had to do that in order to keep it fresh and different enough.  If The Hangover was a 10/10, The Hangover Part II would be around an 8.75/10 as of now.  I'd say that's pretty damn good, considering the plots were virtually the same.  This would doom most movies, but not this one.  It holds up tremendously well, and will certainly go down as one of the funniest films of the year.  Do yourself a favor and go see it.  It'll be a good time, guaranteed.

-Also, the trailer for "Horrible Bosses" (with Charlie Day from "Always Sunny") looks like another funny movie worth seeing.

-During the scene in Alan's bedroom, there was a poster of "Macho Man" Randy Savage featured fairly prominently.  He died only about a week ago, so there was no way they could have done this on purpose.  Eery coincidence?

7 Insane Easter Eggs Hidden in Movies and TV Shows

From Cracked.com, it's their list of 7 Insane Easter Eggs Hidden in Movies and TV Shows.  The easter eggs they include are mostly pretty interesting, and I hadn't heard of most of them.  For example, there's a hidden movie in "The Simpsons", a hidden language in "Futurama", and a couple movies that would be spoiled if you understood another language.  Click above for the full list.

Interview with the Hangover cast

The cast of The Hangover Part II -Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms, Bradley Cooper, and Ken Jeong- interviewed themselves for MovieFone's "Unscripted".  Don't watch it expecting any revealing secrets, but watch it because it's hilarious.  See it below, along with 4 other clips.

Superman Returns

And no, I'm not talking about the movie, but rather Chase Utley.  He's making his season debut tonight against the Reds, a quarter of the way into the season.  The Phillies offense is awful lately, so hopefully his return lights a fire under their ass.  Welcome back!

Utley ended up going 0-5, but hit a few balls hard and showed no signs of injury. Good news is the Phillies scored 10 runs (3 HRs), so looks like Chase may have provided a morale boost.

Todd Phillips interview

ComingSoon.net has a pretty interesting interview with The Hangover Part II director Todd Phillips.  They discuss filming in Vegas vs. Bangkok, Phillips' directing style, picking music, and more.  Follow the link above to read!

Conan O'Brien Can't Stop Trailer

I mentioned the documentary Conan O'Brien Can't Stop in a previous blog post, and now here's the trailer for it:

Ohhh no!

I just found out "Macho Man" Randy Savage was killed today in a car accident.  More info here, and basically everywhere else on the 'net.  Here's a clip of him in his prime:

Everyone should enjoy a Slim-Jim in memoriam.

Matt and Trey on Fresh Air

Yet another interview for Matt Stone and Trey Parker during their seemingly endless promotion for The Book of Mormon.  This time they were on NPR's "Fresh Air".  A lot of these interviews cover the same ground, but nearly all of them have their own insights and are all interesting reads/listens.  Somehow Matt and Trey have time to make South Park during all this, crazy.

Listen or download here.

I think they need a new sign

If you can't read the sign, it says "pay cash and save" yet the cash and credit prices are exactly the same... Really?

The Hangover Part 3?

Nothing is confirmed yet, but Hangover directed Todd Phillips has a loose concept for at third movie.  It apparently wouldn't follow the same fomat as the first 2 films, and would be the final installment in the franchise.  The Hangover Part II hits theatres in 8 days, on May 27th.

Conan O'Brien Can't Stop

Stumbled upon this while web browsing today, it's a documentary that takes place during the 6 months in which Conan was legally prohibited from being on TV (after "leaving" NBC).  Set to come out June 24th of this year, it details Conan's exploits during his stand-up tour.  It features Conan, Andy Richter, Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart, and Jim Carrey.  More info here.

RIP Harmon Killebrew

MLB Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew passed away earlier today, due to cancer of the esophagus at the age of 74.  During his 22 year career for the Twins he hit 573 homeruns, and is one of baseball's all-time greatest players (with an awesome last name). Rest in peace.

Matt and Trey on Morning Joe

Matt and Trey appeard on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on May 13th to talk about the Book of Mormon.  If you didn't know, it was nominated for a one-shy-of-the-record 14 Tony Awards.  Pretty good, considering they had no prior experience on Broadway.  Watch the interview below.

The Galactic Empire Times

In a late-night appearance in the East Room of the Imperial Palace, Lord Vader declared that “justice has been done” as he disclosed that agents of the Imperial Army and stormtroopers of the 501st Legion had finally cornered Kenobi, one of the leaders of the Jedi rebellion, who had eluded the Empire for nearly two decades. Imperial officials said Kenobi resisted and was cut down by Lord Vader's own lightsaber. He was later dumped out of an airlock.

New York?

So, when a washed up New York Yankees catcher having an awful season as a DH gets dropped to last in the line-up -and then proceeds to remove himself from the line-up- it warrants national coverage and almost 10 minutes on SportsCenter??? Seriously? Why do people care so much?  Line-up changes and scratches happen all the time, but apparently it's more important in New York. It's almost as bad as the Brett Favre and Lebron James coverage, which made me want to shoot myself.

I'm talking about Jorge Posada of course, who also has no chin:

Most Worthless MLB Players

From the Bleacher Report, it's their list of the most worthless MLB players, one per team.  Chase Utley is the Phillies choice, but it's kind of silly to pick a player who hasn't played due to injury.  A much better pick would be Danys Baez, or maybe Wilson Valdez.  God I hate Baez.

Speaking of Chase Utley, he's expected to be back the end of next week!

If you're wondering, it's 385 beer bottles. Stored them on the kitchen floor and in boxes in the living room.  That Magic Hat #9 on the top is maybe 4 inches from the ceiling.  Probably consists of 25+ different beers (see if you can find them all!). Took a few hours to sort and build, but it was glorious while it lasted.

Lenny Dykstra indicted...

"LOS ANGELES -- Former New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Lenny Dykstra has been indicted by a Los Angeles federal grand jury in a bankruptcy fraud case.

The 48-year-old filed for bankruptcy in 2009, and is accused of later stealing and selling property from an $18.5 million estate.

Federal prosecutors brought 13 counts against Dykstra, including bankruptcy fraud, obstruction of justice, concealing property from the bankruptcy estate and other charges.

If found guilty on all charges, Dykstra faces a maximum of 80 years in prison.

Dykstra's attorney, Mark Werksman, said the case stems from a dispute with the bankruptcy trustee and no fraud was committed."

The Lost Roles of Bill Murray

Came across this a little bit ago, but it's worth posting now.  It's the lost roles of Bill Murray, and there are certainly some interesting ones on the list.  It has movie roles that he either passed over, was only considered for, and others that he flat out just missed out on. (If you didn't know, Bill keeps to himself, and isn't the easiest person to get in touch with.)  The list includes films such as Star Wars, Rain Man, Batman, Philadelphia, Monsters, Inc., and Little Miss Sunshine.  Click the link above to check it out.

Tide-To-Go

First off, those Tide-to-Go pens are great; they'll remove stains/marks fairly easily and quickly without having to wash the clothing.  It's especially useful for a small stain on something clean or something you don't want to wash, like a sports jersey. However, they smell like shit.

Anyway, the only beef I have with these pens is their smell.  It's awful.  Like shit, seriously.  You almost have to wash the clothing after you use the pen anyway, which kinda defeats the purpose.

I can guarantee they somehow incorporate this into South Park on Wednesday.

My top 15 South Park episodes

In somewhat of an order.  Cartman Gets an Anal Probe is #1 for sure, and Good Times with Weapons is probably #2.  The next few are interchangeable with each other, and then the remaining 7 or so are also interchangeable with each other.  Place your votes at South Park Studios.

Django Unchained

That's the title of the next Quentin Tarantino film, the final draft of which was just submitted.  Tarantino says it is a "Southern", basically a Western set around the time of slavery.  Christoph Waltz, from Inglourious Basterds, is set to star.  Django is a freed slave, and attempts to take revenge after he is unchained.
