Inception Bomb

Yes I tried this, using a shot of Jack Daniels, vodka in beer (Boilermaker) and lime vodka in pink lemonade. And no, I did not have to come up for air!

26 Interesting Facts About Beer

Sunday, August 25, 2013

I call it "The Heisenberg"

I decided to make a shot in honor of Breaking Bad, and I knew it had to be blue:

I call it "The Heisenberg" and it's pretty damn good according to what I was told by my friends (and myself). It's pretty simple to make, too.

2 parts Blue CuraƧao
2 parts Peach Schnapps
1 part Vodka
Mix in shaker with ice
Serve in shot glass
Add a drop of "blood" (Grenadine) before serving
Optional: garnish glass with "meth" (sugar crystals)

For a stronger, less sweet shot, use equal parts Curacao, Schnapps, and Vodka.

29 NJ bars/restaurants busted by Operation Swill

As seen below, 29 places in New Jersey serving alcohol were busted by the undercover Operation Swill for either serving watered down alcohol or substituting cheap booze for expensive brands. What is this, high school? TGI Fridays was the most effective, which can't help their reputation. Honestly, I'm surprised more locations weren't busted, as this seems to be a common issue just from my experience. Read more at MSN.

A map is displayed showing findings in an investigation dubbed "Operation Swill."

Being drunk might actually help you survive an accident

I wish I had a Demetri Martin graph to demonstrate the relationship between BAC and survival, but a study by Lee Friedman shows that the higher the BAC from trauma center patients, the higher the survival rate when compared to sober patients with the same injuries. He analyzed nearly 200,000 cases from various Illinois trauma centers from 1995-2009, with BACs ranging from 0-0.5 %. Aside from burn injuries, Friedman found that all other injuries' mortality rates dropped as intoxication rose; some injuries saw a greater effect than others. There is indeed a correlation present, but is it causation? More here, from Neatorama.

Happy Thanksgiving/National Eat Too Much Day

I don't think that second part is real, but it certainly could be. Hopefully everyone is concerned more about the day with family than they are about Black Friday shopping; apparently it has stretched into Thursday. (Grey Thursday?) Don't overcook that turkey, though. From all of us here at the B Long Blog (me), have a fun, great, and safe Thanksgiving! Enjoy the food, football, and booze!

To make the day more interesting, here's some printable BINGO cards you can play during the events today. View the rest after the jump, from Flavorwire:

So there's a 65% alcohol beer now

It's fittingly called "Armageddon" and seriously is 65% alcohol (130 proof).  To compare, vodka is usually 80 proof, rum around 93, wine about 25, and beer from 7-10 proof on average. It comes in a 330 mL bottle from Scottish brewery Brewmeister and apparently "has a lot of flavour - malty, hoppy, slightly sweet and lots of yeast". I doubt that, as it probably smells like rubbing alcohol with a hint of beer. To achieve the crazy alcohol content and still qualify as "World's Strongest" beer, the brewery actually froze the beer and removed the ice from the top, effectively concentrating the end product.

If you were wondering, drinking one bottle of Armageddon is equivalent to drinking almost 15 beers at 4% alcohol or a 12 pack of 5% beer. Wow.

Red Solo Cup

Apparently the lines on a red Solo cup actually mean something... Not sure if the knock off brands work the same, but I doubt too many people care anyway. Who pours beer to the 12oz line? Fill that shit all the way up!!

St. Patrick's Day LIVE BLOG

10:06 AM - This is my first attempt at a live blog.  I figured St. Patrick's Day would be a good challenge.  Obviously I'll update throughout the day as my drink total climbs and my ability to function declines.  I'll be taking pictures of all the drinks, but since I'll be updating from my phone I may have to edit them in later.  Regardless, stay tuned throughout the day, it should be fun!

10:27 AM - Here's a shot of me and my girlfriend before the festivities unfold.  I'm sure this will be a good comparison later in the day.

10:35 AM - First drink of the day.  Let's call it an Irish coffee. Wanted to start earlier, but hey, I got all day.

10:56 AM - Girlfriend made me breakfast! It's delicious! Time for another drink soon, too.

12:08 PM - Irish Car Bomb time! Kinda disappointed it's afternoon already.

Merry Leap Day!

I really don't know why Leap Day isn't more celebrated... it only comes around once every 4 years, yet somehow Groundhog Day gets more coverage and that is beyond stupid.  Sorry Punxsutawney Phil!  But honestly, last week's episode of 30 Rock had it right.  Leap Day should be a celebration, and while it may be short notice to plan a parade for tomorrow we can all at least wear blue and yellow like Leap Day William.  Don't forget!

Also, check out 11Points for a list of random Leap Day facts.
